04-25-2010 08:36 BJT

Turpan City in China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, has been hit by its worst storm in 30 years.

Three people have been killed, and one is reported missing in collapsed buildings and fires.

Blazes broke out as wind destroyed power lines. The local government immediately cut electricity and natural gas supplies, to prevent more breaking out.

Trees, billboards and agricultural facilities have been destroyed.

Highways and railway lines between Langzhou and Xinjiang, were closed for six hours. But transport and power supplies have now been restored. The loss is estimated around one billion yuan.
