KMT honorary chairman Wu meets Fujian governor

TAIPEI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Kuomintang (KMT) honorary chairman Wu Poh-hsiung on Friday met with governor of eastern Fujian Province Huang Xiaojing at the island's famed attraction Sun Moon Lake.

Wu, a native of Yongding County in Fujian, said Huang's visit would have positive effects on strengthening the ties between Fujian and Taiwan.

"Seeing friends from the hometown reminds me of the time when I was a soldier in Jinmen 40 years ago. Behind my back, the cannon was directly pointing to Xiamen. But now Jinmen and Xiamen have become the forefront of cross-Strait exchange and cooperation," said Wu.

Wu expressed his hope that the time of war would never come back and both sides could build mutual understanding and solve disputes.

Huang said that people from Fujian and Taiwan have close connections, and "the more we visit each other, the closer we are to each other."

The theme of Huang's visit is: "Visiting Friends and Doing Business."

Huang, along with an economic, trade and cultural exchange delegation, started a six-day visit in the island on Wednesday at the invitation of the Taiwan-based KMT's National Policy Foundation.
