TIANJIN, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said Thursday in Tianjin that Arab states need to know more about China and more cultural cooperation is on the agenda of the fourth China-Arab Cooperation Forum.

The forum is being co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Libyan Foreign Minister Mousa Kousa and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, with the theme of "Deepening All-Round Cooperation for Common Development."

Moussa said China-Arab cooperation should be expanded into political, economic, cultural, science, high-tech and other fields.

Moussa underlined the importance of developing cultural relations between Arab countries and China, saying cultural cooperation could help both sides better understand each other.

Moussa said projects to promote mutual understanding, including translations of books, novels and scientific research, would be discussed during the two-day forum

Foreign ministers and representatives from China and 22 Arab countries are attending the meeting, which will end with the issuing of a communique and an action plan for 2010-2012.

China and Arab countries have relations dating back to the Silk Road about 2,000 years ago. China has diplomatic ties with all 22 members of the Arab League.

The forum was initiated in January 2004, when Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. It has since served as a platform for exchanging views between China and Arab nations and for enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation.
