Chinese, S Korean FMs agree to push strategic partnership forward

Gyeongju, South Korea, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi and his South Korean counterpart Yu Myung-wan on Saturday agreed to make joint effort to push strategic partnership between the two nations forward.

The two ministers highly valued bilateral ties when they held talks ahead of a trilateral foreign ministers' meeting of China, Japan and South Korea.

Yang said China pays much emphases on Sino-South Korean relationship which he said faces new opportunities. "China is willing to work with South Korea to fulfill the important consensus achieved by the leaders of the two countries, keep high- level exchange visits, strengthen substantial cooperation and push strategic partnership between the two countries forward," he said.

Yu warmly congratulated on the successful opening of the Shanghai Expo 2010, saying the Expo will be of great importance to enhance the friendly relationship between the two countries, and promote the exchanges and cooperation between China and outside world.

Yu said South Korea will work with China to develop the bilateral strategic partnership. He also expressed the wish to keep in touch with Chinese side on the issues related to the G20 summit meeting due in Seoul later this year.
