KABUL, May 18 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban suicide bomber blew himself up in the western part of Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday, killing 20 people and wounding 18 others.

"In the blast carried out by the enemies 20 persons were killed and 18 others sustained injuries," an official with health department Nisar Ahmad told Xinhua, adding most of the victims were civilians.

Interior Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar condemned the coward terrorist attack, adding full information would be released after completion of investigation.

The attack, according to the Interior Ministry, targeted the foreign military convoy. However, officials are tight lipped if there were any casualties on foreign forces.

An eyewitness Ahmad Khan said that eight foreign soldiers were killed and several automobiles including a passenger bus were damaged in the deadly blast.

This was the third deadly attack in kabul this year claimed by Taliban militants.

A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told media by telephone from unknown location that a militant named Asmudin carried out the suicide attack killing himself and 30 foreign soldiers.

Taliban militants announced last week to launch spring offensive dubbed "Al-Faath" which means victory, but Afghan defense ministry described it as a mere propaganda, saying Taliban are not in a position to confront the Afghan and Nato-led troops.
