World's first solid gold and diamond encrusted Apple iPad

A UK-based elite gadget designer has made the world's first solid gold and diamond Apple iPad. The designer, Katherine Hughes, used nothing less than 25.5 flawless diamonds, plus 53 individually set sparkling gems dwelling in the solid 22 carat gold Apple logo.

The rear and screen surroundings are made from a single piece of solid 22 carat gold.

The iPad model is the Wi-Fi and 3G, 64 GB version.

Only 10 units of this limited edition are being made. The cost? About $215,000.

"A magnificent combination of top of the industry technology and unrivalled craftsmanship was involved in creating this masterpiece," the designer's website said. "This most luxurious iPads appearance is outstanding even down to the precise polishing to reveal its most beautiful harmonious appearance."

Katherine Hughes is the wife of Stuart Hughes who also designs elite gear. It includes a prestige 55-inch TV featuring a base and outer frame made out of 28kg of solid 18 carat rose gold, with 72 brilliant round cut 1 carat flawless diamonds. The remaining areas are set with sunstone and amethyst.

The inner screen layer is made from alligator skin that’s been hand sewn. Only three of these TVs have been made. The price tag? About $2.5 million.
