05-20-2010 13:44 BJT

BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Google is to set up an online application store to upgrade its Internet brower Chrome, according to news reports on Thursday.

The web store, displayed in a conference for software programmers, appears to be fitted for "netbook" laptops which depend on the Chrome operating system. The Chrome OS laptops will not have hard disks and will need to run apps online, reported Associated Press.

The "online" laptops are expected to be on sell for the holiday shopping season.

Google did not give an exact release date for its new apps store, remarking it will be accessible to more than 70 million Chrome browser users before the end of 2010.

The company already operates an apps store for its Andriod smart mobile phone.
