BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao is in Uzbekistan on a state visit and to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The following are some quotable quotes selected from Hu's remarks during his activities on Thursday.

During his meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, Hu said, "Sino-Tajik ties have witnessed healthy and smooth development in recent years, and both countries maintain close exchanges at high levels, have deepened mutual political trust and further expanded practical cooperation in various sectors."

"The two sides support each other firmly on major issues of mutual concern, coordinate and cooperate with each other within multilateral mechanisms, including the UN and the SCO, and have safeguarded the core interests of the two countries effectively."

During his meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, Hu said, "The bilateral relations will see a number of major events in the second half of this year ... The two countries should make good arrangements for high-level contacts in this period."

During his meeting with Chairman of Uzbek Senate Ilgizar Sabirov, Hu said, "Since the two countries decided to establish the friendly and cooperative partnership some six years ago, Sino-Uzbek relations have seen all-round, stable and healthy growth, with cooperation in various fields yielding fruitful results."

"Exchanges and cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries are an important part of the Sino-Uzbek friendly and cooperative partnership."
