DARWIN, Australia, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met here on Tuesday with Paul Henderson, Chief Minister of Australia's Northern Territory, hailing the economic cooperation between China and the region.
During the talks, Xi said he is pleased to visit Darwin, the nearest Australian city to China.
He said his visit is aimed at boosting China's relations with the Northern Territory, proposing that both sides should deepen trade and economic cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural exchange and enhance the exchanges between the Northern Territory and Chinese provinces.
Henderson, on his part, said Xi's current visit embodies the profound friendship and cooperation between Chinese and Australian people.
He also said the Northern Territory sincerely welcomes investment from China, hoping for more cooperation on mineral resources, culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchange between the two sides.
Darwin is the last stop of Xi's five-day visit to Australia, then the vice president is scheduled to go back to China.
