06-23-2010 14:02 BJT

STOCKHOLM, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Swedish unemployment in May showed no increase for the first time in 18 months, stabilizing at 434,000 people or about 8.8 percent of the workforce, Statistics Sweden (SCB) said Tuesday.

"It is the first time in a year and a half that there is no increase from a yearly perspective," the SCB said in a statement.

The number of unemployed people aged 15-74 comprised 236,000 men and 198,000 women, similar to that in the same period of last year, while full-time students accounted for 40 percent of that figure.

The figures also showed the unemployment rate among men fell slightly to 9.1 percent, while the trend in unemployment among women continued to increase to 8.5 percent.
