Obama inspires U.S. squad at World Cup

06-26-2010 08:39 BJT Special Report: World Cup 2010 |

JOHANNESBURG, June 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. coach Bob Bradley has revealed his squad received a motivational team talk from President Barack Obama ahead of their clash with Ghana on Saturday.

Bradley's side finished top of Group C after beating Algeria 1-0 on Wednesday, and he said the call from the President was an honour for him and his players.

"We were honoured before a big match to receive a call from President Obama and if we continue to build on the successes so far we can go to the end," Bradley said. "That's what it is all about, but that has to be balanced with a concentration on each game.

"We try hard not to get ahead of ourselves but at the same time everybody has this idea that if everybody gives their best effort, if everybody puts everything they have into it and if things go our way then we can travel far."
