BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao is paying a state visit to Canada before attending the G20 Summit in the country on June 26-27.
The following are some important remarks the president made Friday when meeting with the Speaker of the Canadian Senate Noel Kinsella and Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken:
"Over the years, the National People's Congress (NPC) has maintained a sound relationship of cooperation and friendly exchanges with both chambers of the Canadian parliament."
"Exchanges between the legislatures of the two countries have become increasingly vigorous with a mature mechanism and have scored many significant achievements. Such activities have played an important role in advancing bilateral relations."
"Over the past four decades, China-Canada relations have constantly moved forward despite changes in the international situation, and the two countries have conducted frequent contacts at various levels and achieved remarkable results in bilateral cooperation"
"Under the new circumstances, expanding common interests have made relations between the two countries even more important."
