06-29-2010 09:47 BJT

The Lhasa Tourism Development Master Plan (2010-2020), has been appraised by experts in Beijing and will be the guiding document for the development of tourism in Lhasa over the next ten years.

As the capital of Tibet, Lhasa owns many famous tourist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Norbu Lingka and Namtso Holy Lake, which are popular among the tourists at home and abroad.

Combined with the outline of urban development referred to in the Urban Master Plan of Lhasa, the document indicates the direction for tourism in Lhasa; with the aim of becoming an "important world tourism destination" and an "international tourism city with plateau and national characteristics".

Apart from containing the general plan, the document also covers Lhasa's actual status, such as tourism festivals, the construction of an international tourism city with plateau and national characteristics, and tourism safety.
