MACAO, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of seven hotels in Macao were awarded as Green Hotels on Tuesday by the Environmental Protection Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), which honored their commitment to environmental management.
The award was presented at a ceremony held here on Tuesday, which was organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau.
Although local environmental protection efforts will meet with various challenges as social development advances, the Bureau will continue to spread the messages of environmental protection to local residents through education and various themed activities such as the presentation of the Green Hotel Awards, said Cheong Sio Kei, director of the Bureau, at the award presentation ceremony.
The Green Hotel award was first launched in 2007 and has been designed to leverage the importance of environmental management within the sector, and honor hotel establishments that have committed to environmental management.
A total of 19 hotels have been awarded as Green Hotels since 2007, which covered about 40 percent of hotels with three stars and above in Macao.
Hotels, which have been evaluated according to the three assessment criteria, such as "Green Leadership and Innovation", " Green Program Performance" and "Partner Synergy" under three phases of assessment including Desktop Assessment, Field Assessment and Award Confirmation, are awarded effective for three years, according to the organizer.
