HONG KONG, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang Thursday officiated at a ceremony celebrating the 13th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) inside the Shanghai Expo Park, according to the local government website.
The event was held outside the Hong Kong Pavilion. Tang delivered a speech and took part in a traditional eye-dotting ceremony to kick off a ceremonial lion dance.
Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, it has faced many challenges, Tang said. "With the staunch support of the central government and the mainland, and the concerted effort of 7 million Hong Kong people, we overcame each of them confidently and scaled new heights."
Tang later visited a "One Country, Two Systems" thematic exhibition, which is now on display at the Hong Kong Pavilion atrium until July 15.
The three-part exhibition showcases Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the establishment of the HKSAR, and the strengths of Hong Kong under the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" and the Basic Law.
