BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- China's fire control authorities said Thursday firefighters have launched their final assault on forest fires in mountains in the country's northeast.
The fires that started Saturday in the Greater Hinggan Mountains in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regions spread to neighboring Heilongjiang Province.
Thousands of firefighters have been deployed to fight the fires
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, all the fires in Inner Mongolia had been extinguished. But 10 fires in Heilongjiang continued to burn, said Jia Zhibang, chief at the National Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters.
The fire control headquarters has provided 5 million yuan (about 735,000 U.S. dollars) to fight the fires.
