Russia starts final stage of "Vostok 2010" exercises

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The final stage of the "Vostok 2010" military exercises started Wednesday in the southeastern city of Khabarovsk, involving air and land forces, PrimaMedia news agency reported.

The final stage tests mobility and ability to fulfill any kind of tasks with limited number of soldiers.

The exercises began in the Siberian and Far Eastern regions on June 29, involving various Russian forces. The first stage concluded on Saturday

It is the largest event of operational and combat training in 2010, according to Russian Armed Forces General Nikolai Makarov.

Up to 30,000 troops were involved in the exercises.
