SANTIAGO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Several ports in southern Chile have been closed due to the strong winds and heavy rains in the area.

According to a statement from the national emergency office on Tuesday, big waves caused by the storms will damage ships and that's why the ports along the southern Pacific were closed.

In cities like capital Santiago, power were once cut off because the wind has damaged the electricity equipment.

The strong wind and heavy rains will last until Wednesday, said the weather forecast.
