MACAO, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Macao's resident deposits for May 2010 decreased by 0.3 percent over the previous month to 211.1 billion patacas (26.3 billion U.S. dollars), according to the figures released on Thursday by the Monetary Authority of Macao.
Of the total resident deposits, pataca deposits and Hong Kong dollar deposits declined at respective rates of 0.8 percent and 1. 1 percent, while other foreign currency deposits increased by 2.8 percent, the figures from the Monetary Authority indicated.
Meanwhile, non-resident deposits decreased by 2.7 percent month- to-month to 71.3 billion patacas (8.91 billion dollars) while public sector deposits increased by 4.1 percent to 15.5 billion patacas (1.93 billion dollar), according to the figures.
The total deposits for May with local banking sector dropped by 0.7 percent from the previous month to 297.9 billion patacas (37.2 billion dollars), and the shares of pataca and HK dollar in total deposits were 22.2 percent and 46.8 percent respectively.
