Small plane crashes in New Zealand

WELLINGTON, July 12 (Xinhua) -- A small plane crashed near the New Zealand North Island city of Palmerston North on Monday, two people were injured, Radio New Zealand reported.

The two injured people have been flown to safety following the crash in the Ruahine Ranges north of the city.

The two seater plane with an instructor and trainee pilot went down in the ranges earlier on Monday afternoon.

Police, fire, ambulance and rescue helicopter services have been sent to the scene.

Both the pilot and instructor have now been airlifted from the wreckage and will be taken to a nearby Christian camp for immediate medical treatment.

It is not yet known how serious their injuries are.
