DAVAO CITY, Philippines, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and several others injured in an accident along a southern Philippine highway early Monday, police said.
The dead included the driver and passenger of the van which rammed against a vegetable truck in Montevista town, in Mindanao' s Compostela Valley province around 6:15 a.m. local time, Senior Superintendent Aaron Aquino, provincial police chief, told Xinhua.
The two vehicles were moving in opposite lanes of the highway when the truck tried to overtake a motorcycle along a blind curve, colliding head-on the incoming van and crushing people onboard, Aquino said.
The truck driver, his helper and another van passenger were also hurt, the police official said.
Compostela Valley has one of the country's most dangerous highways.
Last year, 16 people were killed in two vehicular mishaps in the area in just less than a week.
