Mexican president replaces interior minister in cabinet reshuffle

07-15-2010 10:39 BJT

MXICO CITY, July 14 (Xinhua) -- President Felipe Calderon Wednesday announced a cabinet reshuffle that involves change of three portfolios.

Interior Minister Fernando Gomez Mont will be replaced by Jose Francisco Blake Mora, the interior minister of Baja California State which borders the United States, he told a broadcast press conference from his office.

"I have decided to accept the resignation of Fernando Gomez Mont," Calderon said. "With the completion of the election, Gomez has completed a cycle."

Gomez took over the post in November 2008 after his predecessor Juan Camilo Mourino died in a plane crash near Mexico City.

"I am convinced that Blake has the credential and the experience to be a success at the interior ministry," Calderon said, adding that his new interior minister faces two challenges.

"Taking on the fight against organized crime and for the security; and discussions with all Mexico' s political forces." Gomez will be Calderon's third interior minister.
