New German president visits Austria, promises cooperation

VIENNA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- German President Christian Wulff and Austrian President Heinz Fischer on Wednesday said their countries would further develop their good-neighborly relations.

The two presidents made the statement after their talks centering on such issues as European Union enlargement and cooperation between the two countries.

The newly elected German president said Germany and Austria share strong similarities not only in history but also in culture and in economy.

Austrian President Fischer said he would continue with Wulff the close relationship as with his predecessor Horst Kohler.

The common denominators between Austria and Germany will be continued, Fischer said.
