Lebanese PM kicks off official visit to Syria

07-15-2010 13:51 BJT

DAMASCUS, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri started his official visit to Damascus on Wednesday, the Syrian official news agency SANA reported.

The visit aims at boosting relations and enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries, said the report, adding that a number of agreements between the two sides will be also signed during the visit.

Last month, Hariri paid a short visit to Damascus, which Syrian presidential advisor Buthaina Shaaban described as good and fruitful.

Last December, Hariri paid a landmark visit to Damascus, which ended nearly five years of bitterness between the two countries. Damascus was suspected of being involved in killing former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut on Feb. 14, 2005, which Syria has always denied.
