BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- China announced the creation of the National Chinese Language News Information Standardization Commission Thursday to improve the sharing of news information and sharpen the international competitive edge of Chinese language news.

The committee will devote itself to developing, promoting and sustaining technical standards in the field of Chinese language news information, said Lu Wei, vice president of Xinhua News Agency and chairman of the committee, at a meeting marking the committee's establishment Thursday.

Xinhua has developed two sets of technical standards for Chinese language news information in eight years, in cooperation with the State Council Information Office, the General Administration of Press and Publication, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, People's Daily, Economic Daily, Guangming Daily and Tsinghua University.

Xinhua is in charge of the committee, which is comprised of experts from China's news agency, newspapers, broadcasting, television, networking and publication sectors.

The committee will work to popularize the application of the two standards worldwide, Lu said.

Xinhua President Li Congjun said in a congratulatory letter read at the meeting that the committee would enable Chinese media to be better adapted to the adjustment within the global media structure and was a milestone in the development of Chinese language media organizations worldwide.
