Drone attack kills 5 people in NW Pakistan

07-16-2010 09:25 BJT

ISLAMABAD, July 15 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed during suspected U.S. drone attack in northwest Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area on Thursday evening, local TV channels reported.

The drone fired three missiles on some hideouts of suspected militants, the private TV Express reported.

The identities of the killed have yet to be confirmed.

The U.S. drones regularly hit hideouts of the militants in the Pakistani tribal region, which Washington considers as the center of Taliban and al-Qaeda remnants. Pakistan opposes the U.S. strikes inside the country's tribal regions and seeks the drone technology. But the United States does not accept Islamabad's request.
