He talked to visitors and the staff, including Dr Celia Guevara March, daughter of Ernesto Che Guevara, the legendary Argentinian-Cuban guerrilla commander.

Castro enjoyed watching the impressive 20-minute underwater show, when three dolphins and their trainers danced together. He showed interest and asked questions, said aquarium director Guillermo Garcia.

"We are very excited, watch him this close, the feeling is indescribable," said Isis Montelongo, an official of the Aquarium.

On July 7, Castro showed up in a scientific research center, his first public appearance since he handed over power to his brother Raul in 2006.

On Monday July 12 he appeared at a TV program "Mesa Redonda"(Round Table) and commented on the Middle East situation. On Tuesday he met with economists at the World Economic Research Center.
