KATHMANDU, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The politburo meeting of the main opposition Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) on Tuesday decided to field its party chairman Prachanda as the party candidate for the prime minister's election scheduled for Wednesday, UCPN-M vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai informed.
The Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has registered the name of its chairman Jhalanath Khanal as nominee for prime minister's post.
The decision follows a marathon meeting of the party's Central Committee meeting Tuesday. The meeting also decided that it would take part in the election only if it is assured of support of two- third members in the Constituent Assembly, CPN-UML leader Shankar Pokharel told reporters.
Leaders from different parties have arrived at the Constituent Assembly building to file the nominations for the candidates.
Caretaker Prime Minister and CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal is filing the candidacy of his party chairman Jhalanath Khanal while UCPN-M chairman Prachanda is filing his own candidacy for the PM post at the CA building.
The parties will have to nomiate their candidates before 5 p.m. (1115 GMT) Tuesday to register the name for the prime minister's election.
Earlier, the Nepali Congress has nominated party vice president and Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel as its candidate for the post of PM.
