Japan to hold extraordinary Diet session from July 30 to Aug. 6

07-22-2010 15:28 BJT

TOKYO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Japan's ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) agreed Thursday to hold an extraordinary Diet session from July 30 to August 6, local media reported Thursday, citing party lawmakers.

During the session, key debates will take place on Aug. 2 and 3 in the lower house and on Aug. 4 and 5 in the upper house.

Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda and some other ministers under Kan's administration are expected to deliver policy speeches, according to the lawmakers.

As the ruling coalition lost its majority in the upper house in the July 11 House of Councillors election, Prime Minister Naoto Kan will likely face difficulty in passing legislation in the " twisted" two-chamber Diet, although the DPJ retains its dominance in the more powerful House of Representatives.
