JAKARTA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's parliament on Thursday night appointed Darmin Nasution as the new governor of Bank Indonesia, the central bank, replacing Boediono who currently serves as vice president.

"Basically, we agree to elect Mr. Darmin Nasution to be the Bank Indonesia governor with several notes," said Surachman Hidayat, deputy chairman of parliament's Commission XI focusing on

financial and banking sectors, among others. Members of parliament (MP) said that they agreed to elect Darmin as BI governor with condition that he would resign if investigation finds out that he is a suspect or defendant in the banking bailout case of Bank Century that posed loss of trillions of rupiah for the country. They also said that Darmin must make bureaucracy reforms as there is no good corporate governance (GCG) in the bank.

Darmin was also demanded to take side on people and real sector. "The new governor must be pro on real sector," said Eva Kusuma Sundari, an MP from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle. The Prosperous and Justice Party, an Islam-based party, said that Darmin must develop a fair and proportional Islamic banking. The Great Indonesia Party said that Darmin must maintain price stability to control inflation. Darmin was a director general of taxation in the Finance Ministry and currently serves as deputy governor senior and the acting of central bank governor. He was elected by the parliament following a two day-fit and proper test process.
