Australian companies preparing for buying frenzy iPhone 4

CANBERRA, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The latest iPhone goes on sale in Australia on Friday and the big telecommunication companies have been preparing for a buying frenzy, media reported on Tuesday.

iPhone Four sales will expand on July 30 to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Apple has sold more than three million of the smart phones since it was launched a month ago in France, Britain, Germany, Japan and the United States.

But the rollout has been problematic. Users have complained they lose reception when holding the lower left corner of the phone, whose unusual antenna wraps completely around the device.

Apple boss Steve Jobs has played down the problem saying no phone is perfect, but the company will provide free rubber bumpers that surround the sides of the phone and refund buyers who have already purchased cases.

Australia's telecoms, Telstra and Optus have been quick to prepare for the release, opening selected stores at midnight on Thursday for fans to purchase the latest offering.

Telstra chief executive David Thodey on Tuesday said he endorsed the product and said the bumper, which comes free with the phone, would ensure "great" reception.

"I'm delighted with the iPhone Four, it's a great device and we 've been testing it and we're very happy to be putting it into the market," Thodey told Australian Associated Press.

"It's had some teething problems, but lots of technologies have teething challenges.

"But if people do have a problem they are welcome to come back and either get a replacement or just return it. But we don't expect it."
