The Beichuan earthquake relics are not open for tourism nor are there any tourist buses going to Beichuan from the southwestern city of Chengdu, said a Beichuan official.
The local newspaper Chengdu Business reported yesterday, a tourist bus going to Beichuan from the southwestern city of Chengdu last Saturday marked the rejuvenation of tourism in the tremor-hit town.
The news resulted in a heated discussion online. Most netizens are against the decision. One netizen said, "It's not the right time to open the tremor-hit town for tourism. Visitors will destroy the relics before its conservation measures are well established."
The West China City Newspaper interviewed an official from the Mianyang Tourism Administration, who denied the information that Beichuan is open for tourism.
