MASERU, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Lesotho China Expo steering committee is pulling all stops to market the country's business opportunities, cultural and tourism attractions ahead of a visit to China later this year, official has said.

Lesotho wants to send 20 musicians billed to perform during China's National Day celebrations in October, and a string of music concerts to raise funds for the local artistes are in progress in the capital Maseru.

Liahelo Nkaota, information officer with the Ministry of Trade, said on Friday the committee was to fly the 20 artistes for the China festivities.

"The music concerts are an initiative to raise funds for the artistes that will represent Lesotho at the National Day celebrations to be held in China," she said.

"It is a privilege for Lesotho because we will also be celebrating our own independence day in another country," she said.

Lesotho celebrates its independence from British colonial rule on Oct. 4.

Nkaota said the ministry was determined to raise enough money to fund the group as planned to fly to China.

"We want to provide transport, accommodation and food to the artists so that they can enjoy their visit," she said.

China's National Day is celebrated on Oct. 1. This year, the celebration comes at the time the country is hosting the Shanghai World Expo.

The world's biggest trade exhibition started on May 1 and will end on Oct. 31. Lesotho is one of the 240 countries at the Expo.
