BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- A family in Dalian, Liaoning Province said it has been bedeviled for 20 years by mysterious fireballs ranging in size from a one-fen coin to as large as a basketball that fly through their home during severe thunderstorms.
The father and husband, Zou Wenfu, 50, said family members hide under beds during storms to avoid the luminous balls that zip through their house with exploding sounds like firecrackers.
"Sometimes there are several, sometimes 10 or more," he said.
No damage or injuries have been reported, nor did the family say why they don't simply relocate.
The director of the city's Lightning Prevention and Protection Center said, "It's is a phenomenon that once also happened in Pulandian, in Liaoning Province and aroused widespread interest but cannot be explained by scientists."
