HOUSTON, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least 26 people were injured when the balcony of an apartment in the U.S. state of Texas collapsed Sunday morning, U.S. media reported Monday.
Fire department officials said investigators will continue on Monday their review of what happened to the second-floor balcony of the apartment in Texas' capital of Austin, according to Fox news.
A preliminary investigation found that when the collapse took place at 4 a.m. local time, about 30 party goers were on the 400- square-foot balcony, exceeding the structure's weight limit, officials said.
Most of the injured had broken and fractured bones and jaws when the balcony gave way and threw them screaming down to the ground.
The balcony was attached to a three-story townhouse. Authorities were also investigating if the owner had the permit to construct the balcony, officials said.
