The showcase presented by Tianjing Municipality in the Urban Best Practices Area, received its millionth visitor yesterday. The exhibit depicts how Tianjin evolved from a seaside village into a modern city.

Jing Minxian from Weinan, Shaanxi Province, was surprised to get a certificate, a paper-cut scroll and a digital camera from the host. The scroll unveils a panoram of Huaming Town as highlighted in Tianjin's UBPA display.

The town boasts many solar-powered homes and a whole range of modern facilities. Local peasants now enjoy floor space of more than 80 square meters per family.

Tianjin Municipal Government swapped land with villagers a few years ago for urbanization projects, which directly benefited the locals with new homes and social welfare, including pension and insurances. Each family received over 21,000 yuan (US$3,079) in relocation funds.
