MOSCOW, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday slammed his envoy in the North Caucasus district over the absence of investments in the republic of Dagestan, according to media reports.
Medvedev claimed the work of local authorities was not effective.
"The situation is bad ... nothing has been done on that. Without these investments, the republic's economy will not be able to develop," Medvedev said at a meeting on the socioeconomic development of Dagestan.
Magomedsalam Magometov, the president of Dagestan, asked Medvedev during the meeting to provide the republic with governmental guarantees and preferences as well as to impose a free trade regime for new business projects.
Moscow has vowed to improve social and economic situation in the North Caucasus region as a measure to tackle corruption and terrorism.
