08-17-2010 10:41 BJT

China's Central Government will invest 1.5 trillion yuan ($0.22 trillion) in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to advance development in the region, according to media reports Monday, citing Chen Ruixian, vice director of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone.

The total amount, to be used in infrastructure and communal facilities including railways, roadways, airports, bridges and reservoirs, will be parceled in three to five years.

The Chinesegovernment plans to set bridges between Guangxi and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a means to draw the region closer to potential partners who will eventually be of benefit to its (Guangxi) economic development.

Furthermore, Guangxi's neighboring province, Guangdong, recently announced a plan to invest 1.98 trillion yuan in 150 projects in transportation, energy, water conservancy and informationization.
