LIBREVILLE, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Gabon's President Ali Bongo Ondimba on Wednesday met with Chinese President Hu Jintao's special envoy Yuan Guiren on the occasion to mark the African country's 50th anniversary of independence.
During the meeting, Bongo thanked Yuan for joining the jubilee celebrations, hailing the time-honored friendship between the two countries.
The president said that the government of Gabon had attached great importance to the development of the Gabonese-Sino ties, wishing to promote the friendly relations and cooperations.
Yuan conveyed Hu's greetings to Bongo and congratulations to the Gabonese people on the 50th anniversary of independence, hoping that Gabon will achieve new success in building its economy.
The special envoy said since China and Gabon established diplomatic relations 36 years ago, the bilateral relations have developed smoothly. China is willing to make joint efforts with Gabon to push the bilateral relations to a new level.
Yuan, the Chinese minister of education, also met with his counterpart Moundounga, the Gabonese minister of National Education, Higher Education, Innovation of Scientific Research.
The Chinese envoy arrived in Libreville on Monday and attended the celebration on Tuesday.
