Day six -- a diary from Libyan runner Shushan

08-19-2010 11:07 BJT

Following is a diary that the 16-year-old Libyan runner Entisar Shushan wrote on Wednesday, after she took part in the CEP program Exploration Journey to HortPark.

Participants of Exploration Journey can embark on a green adventure to either HortPark or Marina Barrage, two of Singapore's newest environment-themed attractions. Participants get a chance to build mini gardens enclosed in glass bottles and enjoy spectacular views of the city and Singapore's waterfront, the Marina Bay.

Wednesday, August 18

I got up early this morning with great expectations because we will participate in the Exploration Journey today. However, the journey started in the afternoon so I had to wait eagerly for the coming of the afternoon.

The rain in the morning made me a little worried. But luckily, it stopped at noon.

At around a quarter to three, we arrived in the HortPark, the destination of our Exploration Journey. Some of my fellow Libyan athletes also came with me.

There are a lot of athletes from different NOCs taking part in the program. There are some Chinese guys and also South Koreans. But it was not easy to tell them from each other. Even their language sounds alike to me.

The journey was as interesting as I had expected. We saw a lot of green plants here. I come from a country with quite a lot of desert. It was really amazing to see so many green plants, some of which I had never seen before.

Singapore is a country with plenty of trees and green plants. I like it very much.

Then we got the chance to taste some local fruits. They tasted great and I like them. But what impressed me most was the butterfly house. It was the first time for me to see so many different kinds of butterflies. How beautiful these creatures are! They were dancing when they were flying.

And we also got chance to built our mini garden in glass bottles. The volunteer guy showed us how to build it and we could decorate it as we like. And the most important thing is that, we can bring home our own bottle garden with us. That's interesting!

It was a great journey today. We really had fun and learned some knowledge about environment protection. What a special day!

And tomorrow will also be special for me because I will run in the 1,000m qualifications heat. I will try my best.
