FDA finds salmonella in chicken feed in farms

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. food officials say they have found salmonella that links two farms in Iowa to an egg recall, according to AP on Friday.

Salmonella was found in chicken's feed at Wright County Egg and also Hillandale Farms, the FDA said. More than 550 million eggs from the two farms were recalled after they were linked to the recent salmonella poisoning across the U.S..

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official Sherri McGarry said the salmonella found at Wright County Egg in Iowa matches the fingerprints of the salmonella found in many of the sickened.

The officials emphasized they do not yet know how the chicken feed became contaminated. Investigator are studying 600 samples from 24 locations at the two farms.

Wright County Egg said in a statement that they will work with the FDA for reviewing the feed ingredients purchased from outside vendors.

The life-threatening illnesses is expected to increase. However, no deaths have been reported due to this outbreak.
