August sales by GM China grow 19.2 percent

August sales by GM China and its joint ventures rose 19.2 percent on an annual basis to 181,625 units, taking GM's sales in China in the first eight months this year to more than 1.56 million vehicles.

Shanghai GM sold 81,063 cars in August, an increase 28.1 percent over a year ago due to strong demand for all three of its marques sold in China - Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac.

Sales by SAIC-GM-Wuling hit 95,119 vehicles last month, 7.2 percent more than a year earlier, with delivery of Wuling Sunshine minivan surpassing 50,000 units for the eighth consecutive month.

GM's joint venture with FAW moved 5,039 light commercial vehicles in August.
