PHNOM PENH, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- A British man who was suspected to have unlawful sex with two underage Cambodian girls was arrested on Sunday night, police said on Monday.
Phnom Penh Municipal Police chief of anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection bureau Keo Thea said that 50-year-old Michael Julian Leach along with other three people were arrested for allegedly purchasing child prostitution and sexually abusing two girls aged 11 and 12 at a local guest house in Kien Svay district of Kandal province.
Other three arrested were Penh Phat, 46, a Cambodian man on suspicions of brokering the two girls for the accused, one of the two girls' mother identified as Eth Oeun, 45, and the woman Sem Dep, 45, the owner of the guest house.
Keo Thea said that his unit investigated the British man for several days before the operation to raid on the guest house on Sunday night where he spent his last day with the two underage girls.
"He was staying in the room with the two girls for six days already of whom he paid each of 1,500 U.S. dollars before he was arrested," Keo said.
"The four accused are still being held at our police station for further interrogations and they would be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday for further interrogations under primary charges of having sex with underage girls and accomplice of purchasing child prostitution," said Keo Thea.
