CANBERRA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce on Tuesday signed in the new Labor cabinet made up of 19 cabinet ministers, 10 ministers and 12 parliamentary secretaries at Government House in Canberra.

Cabinet ministers including Defense Minister Stephen Smith, Treasurer Wayne Swan, as well as Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, who will soon jet off to the U.S. to hold talks in Washington and New York.

Australia's first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard has also been sworn in earlier at a ceremony with the Governor-General in Canberra, 24 days after the Aug. 21 election. It is the second time in just a few weeks that Gillard has been sworn in as Prime Minister, after she ousted former prime minister Kevin Rudd from the top job on June 24.

Gillard on Saturday announced her new cabinet for the Labor Government in next term, bringing deposed leader Kevin Rudd back into the fold as Foreign Minister, shuffling her senior portfolios and rewarding some of the key players who helped her to power in the pre-election coup.

According to ABC News, Labor's cabinet is likely to meet soon ahead of Parliament's first sitting day on Sept. 28.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott on Tuesday in Sydney announced his new shadow cabinet for the Coalition of next term.
