HONG KONG, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday sent a congratulatory letter to a meeting on the peaceful reunification of China.

The Overseas Chinese World Conference for Promoting Peaceful Reunification of China, which is held for the first time in Hong Kong, gathers over 1,500 people from around the globe, making it the biggest of its kind.

Jia, who also serves as the chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification, said in his letter that he is glad to know Hong Kong hosts the meeting.

He notes that for a long time, the compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese have been showing great concern for the cause of national reunification and have been an important force in anti-secession and reunification efforts.

Jia hopes the meeting could get more overseas Chinese involved for the reunification cause and foster stronger ties with the Taiwan compatriots so as to promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and achieve national reunification.

The meeting, firstly held in Berlin, Germany in 2000, had been convened in many cities include Tokyo, Sydney, Moscow, Vienna, Bucharest, Macao and Los Angles.
