International marine biologist conference postponed in Indonesia

09-21-2010 15:24 BJT

JAKARTA, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The international conference of international marine biologists discussing issues of global warming, scheduled this month in Southeast Sulawesi, had been postponed to an unspecified time, a media reported here Tuesday.

Over 90 international marine biologists initially planned to take part in the conference in Wakatobi district.

"The meeting initiated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States had been postponed and we have no idea when it will be rescheduled," Wakatobi district head Hugua was quoted by Antara news wire as saying.

According to Hugua, the conference would be a follow up to the result of the World Ocean Conference (WOC) in Manado, North Sulawesi, in May 2009. He said NOAA chose Wakatobi to host the meeting because the corral reefs in the district have important role in the global warming process.
