CAIRO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and U.S. Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell discussed on Sunday efforts to push forward the Middle East peace process after the suspension of the direct Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, Egypt's MENA news agency reported.

The Palestinian National Authority has decided to suspend direct negotiations that were re-launched in Washington on Sept. 2, after Israel's rejection to freeze settlement construction.

Earlier this week, Israeli Radio reported that Netanyahu failed to gain a majority of support in his cabinet which is controlled by right-wing parties to extend the settlement freeze moratorium, despite that he has received a package of offers from the United States to freeze settlement for another two months.
