Australia's Queensland gov't runs cyclone workshops for tourism operators

BRISBANE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Australian senior meteorologists have warned Queenslanders to expect up to six cyclones this summer, the state government said on Thursday.

The weather bureau's Jim Davidson said on Monday that up to six cyclones were predicted off the Queensland coast, a number not predicted since the 1970s. The highest number that had ever crossed the coast in one season was three.

"Cabinet received advice this week from senior meteorologists that Queensland could be in for a wild, wet season," Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said in a statement.

Tourism Queensland is running cyclone workshops to train tourism operators for preparing what is predicted to be Queensland 's worst cyclone season in 40 years.

The workshops are designed to help operators develop crisis management plans to ensure tourists and staff are safe.

The training can also help the operators reopen their businesses quickly after a big storm.
