Cuban, Surinamese leaders meet to boost bilateral relations

HAVANA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Vice President of the Cuban Council of State Esteban Lazo and Surinamese Foreign Minister Winston Guno Lackin discussed ways to boost bilateral cooperation here on Wednesday.

During their meeting, both officials praised bilateral relations and expressed their common will to deepen and strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Lazo and Lackin also discussed issues of regional and international interest, including common challenges like global financial crisis and climate change, as well as the process of integration of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Lackin started his first official visit to Cuba on Oct. 18 and met his counterpart Bruno Rodriguez, who said that "the relations between Cuba and Suriname have a solid foundation."

Currently, the two countries share a strong partnership, particularly in areas like public health, sports and vocational training.
