860K visitors on 175th day

10-23-2010 15:36 BJT Special Report:Shanghai World Expo 2010 |

As the closing day of Expo is approaching, the Expo Site welcomed ever-increasing crowds of visitors these days. By 9pm, 860,600 people came into the site, adding the total volume to 68.87 million in the 175 days of Expo.

The Expo will close on October 31.

As of 6pm, the gate at Houtan had received 133,000 visitors, compared to 138,000 at Shangnan Road, 117,000 via Changqing Road and 103,000 through Gaoke Road W.

By 10pm, 140 shows were staged within the site, attracting 568,900 spectators. Some 5,440 volunteers served on the site.

The transportation system carried 1.15 million visitors. By 4pm, five medical stations in the site had received 270 visitors, of whom 17 were externally injured.

The Expo organisers have advised people, especially the elderly to avoid coming today as huge crowds of over 900,000 visitors are expected.

Since the last week of World Expo, October 25 to 31, requires peak day tickets, this weekend will be the last chance for visitors to use their standard day tickets. Admission for the last week will cost 200 yuan (US$30), 40 yuan more than a standard day ticket.

A 160-yuan standard day ticket can be swapped for two night tickets (90 yuan each) at the gates from 4pm to 8:50pm until October 29. No ticket can be bought or swapped on October 30 or 31, the last two days of World Expo.
